The Loneliness pandemic
Loneliness is one of the defining problems of our time.
The World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 6 people globally experience loneliness. That’s nearly 2 billion people who feel unseen, forgotten and invisible.
It also reports that more than 871,000 people die each year due to loneliness related causes. That’s approximately 100 deaths every hour.
But beyond the statistics, most of us have experienced loneliness ourselves. Think about it for a moment.
How many people check up on you daily? Mostly zero. Maybe one or two.
How many people do you check up on daily? Mostly zero. Maybe one or two.
We thought, this can’t be right, and so we created a movement, whose members are ready to check up on someone, and open to being checked up on themselves, so that no one feels alone.
But we quickly realized that, if we use normal platforms, checking up on many people would mean holding a conversation with more than 10 people, every day, asking each other how we are doing, which is not ideal and would feel like a job.
So we built an app that allows each user to post a status of how they are doing such as: I am well and good.
People who care can just open the profile, read the status and send them a no reply message such as: have a nice day.
They will only see the message but cannot reply ensuring they don’t need to hold a conversation.
And if someone hasn’t posted a status, a user can press a button that will automatically send them a message that the user checked up on them.
Users can also easily find each other in the find friend’s page, and add each other, ensuring that you can start checking up on new friend’s right after joining the app.
That way, we can easily check up on each other every day without it feeling like a chore and in the process, ensure no one feels alone and irrelevant.
